Hands of Esperanza's Story

Our organization, Hands of Esperanza, has been working in conjunction with two Guatemalan-based organizations, Living to Serve and Mision Vida Nueva, for the past five years to serve the local population of San Cristobal, Guatemala in various ways. Every August, NSU Orlando PA students organize a medical mission trip to Guatemala.  During the trip, certified medical practitioners and PA students provide basic healthcare, health education, and sustainable preventative health solutions, such as water filtration systems and smokeless stoves, to the local and indigenous population of this region. To raise funds for this trip, students organize the Shark Stride 5K, a competitive and fun race for runners of all ages to enjoy. This will be the 5th Annual Shark Stride. Last year we had over 500 participants in the event, and we would love your support to make it even better in order to bring the necessary medications to our Guatemalan patients on this year’s mission trip.
